Ramblings, Training

A week of goofing off

I followed my same training schedule this past week with the exception of Sunday, which I used as a rest day.  Having time off from following a specific training plan was good for me but also rather challenging.

When you are on a program, you are used to percentages, volume, deloads, back off sets, accessory work, and most everything planned out ahead of time.  Not having anything set in stone for the week ahead left me slightly uneasy but it was also quite freeing.

Nothing really to note, except a PR on strict press on Tuesday.  I found a website that claimed you should be able to strict press 75% of your push press.  For me, that meant 225.  When I got to 180, I knew that 225 was nowhere in the picture.  I hit 192 then failed 205, and another fail at 200.  It was pretty amazing to have the weight on my shoulders and not utilize and drive or motion to get the weight going.  That is something I am certainly not used to.  After that, I wanted to see what a 10RM back squat would look like.  Somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought I might be able to hit 405, but ended up with 385 and the feeling of death.

Saturday I had a lot of fun just messing around, coming up with a workout on my own.

I got out the yoke and loaded it up.  I wanted to see how far I would walk 700lbs, which as it turns out, was not very far at all. I stripped the weight and got a great workout in (8x: 30m yoke carry (375lbs), 15 GHDs, and 10 cal ski). Maybe when I am back in full training mode I can move 1,000lbs.

Overall, I had a pretty good week of training.  I broke a sweat and took a mental break that I needed.  Now it is time to select another training program and get back into the swing of things.

47 weeks out.
