Since I had just wrapped up a 6 week training block and was about to start a new 12 week cycle on Monday, I thought I would take Sunday and Monday as a rest day. In my mind, that meant that on Sunday I could just cut loose and eat whatever I felt like eating.
This turned out to be the worst idea ever.
First, I slept in and did not set my alarm. That alone was amazing. I woke up at 8:00a and can’t remember the last time that has happened. The wife and I woke up, got dressed, and went to Wild Eggs where I had the big stack of pancakes with chopped bacon, topped with butter and sugar powder. It was seriously amazing.
Just before lunch, the family went to House of Boom and jumped for an hour and a half. Given the state of my knees, I stopped after the first hour and sat down with my wife on the sidelines while the girls continued to jump. I really had wanted to rest all day but the jumping and being active did feel good.
After House of Boom, we went to Five Guys where the food carnage continued for me with a bacon cheeseburger and fries. I very rarely eat red meat and can’t remember the last time I have had a big burger like this. The fries were amazing, although super salty. I remember feeling so lethargic and full afterwards.
For a snack that afternoon, I polished off the Valentine’s Day candy that was still laying in one of the boxes. My sweet tooth will be the death of me and I am weak around chocolate.
The girls went to spend the night with their grandparents so that gave Gina and I a free night out. We went to a local spot called Rec Bar and had fried pickles as an appetizer. Dinner for me was some type of chicken sandwich with bacon and egg on it, served with tater tots. I added 2 beers to dinner as well. After that, I had to finish the evening off with Greater’s Ice Cream, which was a double scoop of cookie dough chocolate chip.
I remember when I got home how horrible and full I felt. I was stuffed and miserable, full of regret.
I slept like garbage. I had horrible dry mouth and just couldn’t get comfortable at all.
The next morning I felt almost hungover. It was ridiculous. A cheat meal here and there is OK, but a cheat day is just the dumbest things I could ever do.
