This week didn’t start out how I wanted to… at all. With my wife out of town at a conference most of the week, I had planned on going to the gym during lunch. Those plans were derailed when I was hit with a sinus infection. Normally I can shake these things off, but this one was rough. The cough was so bad that it prevented me from sleeping. I got a couple of hours of sleep for 2 nights in a row and finally had enough and went in to get medicine. I fully expected to have strep, flu, or something else. But I was told it was just a really bad sinus infection. They gave me some medicine which has thrown me off but the first night I stopped coughing long enough to get sleep. I have been too exhausted to really go in and figured it would be best to skip today.

I really hate push jerks. I don’t feel confident dropping under on them at all. I would much rather split jerk everything. Maybe the medicine gave me a false sense of being recovered. I felt really good through all of this. Even during the AB. But after that, sitting in the car, I coughed so much I thought I was going to throw up.

There were some light snatches in there but I took them out and kept all the movements CJ related. Still coming back from this sinus infection and didn’t want to get too crazy. Skipped the assault bike as well because I didn’t want that Fran cough again.

I seriously have no idea where this big split jerk PR came from. I didn’t expect it at all. One thing I have been doing a little different, is thinking about the jumps I want to make and then writing them on the board. This morning I made it a point to take a little different, slightly bigger jumps than I am used to, thinking that if I was feeling good then I would just keep moving through and perhaps sneak in a little PR. When I got to 320, I had to fight it, but when it was done I didn’t really feel like it was all that difficult. I think 337 is there, and more, just have to keep grinding.

- Snatch: Heavy single – 2×85, 2×105, 2×135, 155, 170, 180, 190, 200
- CJ: Heavy single – 2×155, 2×185, 225, 250, 275, 295, 305x, 305x
- FS: Heavy single – 245, 275, 335, 375, 400, 415 PR, 425x
When I was done with the CJ, I was a little bummed for the two misses on the cleans at 305. But when I actually took a step back and looked at the entire day, I can’t be mad at all. I haven’t snatched 200 that easy since my PR at the meet months ago. With my PR being 209, hitting 200 that easy was kinda crazy because I didn’t expect it. I made slightly different jumps going up and I think that helped a lot, along with a better warm-up. In fact, on both the snatch & CJ, I was able to hit around 96% of my 1RM without a miss. Current CJ max is 306, so I can’t be too terribly upset about the misses at around 100%. The FS PR took me by total surprise as well. I probably should have had the 425 but I was getting pretty tired at that point. 400 was a big bench mark weight for me to hit, and 415 is even better. Certainly happy with how the day shook out.
