C25k – Week 4 of 8

I guess this is a running blog now.  Who knew?

The running days this week were good, hard, good.

  • 4R+3W x 2
  • 3R+2W
  • 5 Min Cool Down

W4/D2

  • 5 Min W/U
  • 3R+2W
  • 5R+3W x2
  • 3R+2W
  • 5 Min Cool Down

W4/D3

  • 5 Min W/U
  • 3R+2W
  • 5R+2W x2
  • 3R+2W
  • 5 Min Cool Down

The 2nd day was what finally got me. I remember looking down at my watch during the first 3 minute run wondering how I was doing, only to realize that I did not even start my watch.  So the data for that day is incomplete.  The way that my brain works, I thought about running an extra 2 minutes at the end, but figured it wouldn’t really matter.  I had logged the time on my legs and that was mattered the most.

I am not sure why that 2nd run was so tough, but it has been the only one so far where I wanted to stop running.  I felt very winded at the end of each interval, especially the two 5-minute intervals in the middle.  The wildest part, however, was day 3 was basically the same as day 2, but it felt fine.  My pace was better and I felt like I could just keep running.  I was trying to focus on my positioning and how my feet were striking.  I was also trying to pump my arms while not carrying a lot of tension in my upper body.

After the run on day 3, I went for a 30-minute power walk, even swung by the car to grab my vest.  I think it has helped a good deal to stay moving and not immediately go back to my car and let my body cramp up.

Race Predictor

After the bad day 2, and given that all of the running intervals in the middle of each training session have been longer, I fully expected to see a big increase in the 5K my watch would predict.

I have seen this at 26:38 earlier in the week, so I shouldn’t be mad at all about 26:40.  I kinda feel like my watch is insane if it thinks this is what I will actually run the race in.  I tell myself not to look at this stuff too much but then I go look at it.  I am continually reminding myself that I just want to run it without stopping, not run a PR.  As the running intervals ramp up this week, I am already working on wrapping my mind around seeing a much slower 5K predicted time.
