C25K – Week 8 of 8

I somehow got my days mixed up this week and everything felt off.  I believe this was because of Memorial Day being Monday and my wife having the day off.  I normally followed a running schedule of Tues/Thurs/Sun but this week I ended up going back to back on the running when I probably shouldn’t have.  I wanted to get the running in because they felt like they were the most important days.  The first was a 25-minute run and the second was a 30-minute run.  I prefer to have a day in between each, but starting a day later because my schedule was thrown off did not help.  Also, the 5K was on a Saturday and I usually run on a Sunday.  No biggie, right?

On Tuesday, it was raining all morning with no signs of letting up.  The same weather was forecast for the next few days.  I figured I would just have to suck it up and get out in the rain.

It reminded me of a seminar we went to many years ago.  The person leading the seminar had run countless races and talked about a time where all of her training was in good weather but on race day, it rained.  If you aren’t prepared for that, it can really throw you off.  That has always stuck with me so I went out in the rain and logged the time.

It was not as bad as I thought.  Not only did it knock the temperature down some, but it was also quite therapeutic to run in.  I took my wife’s advice and just went out to run and didn’t look at my watch.  It was one of the rare days where I felt as if I could just run forever.  My 30-minute run the day after… well… not so much.

It has been about 10 years since I ran 30 minutes without stopping.  Especially after running 25 minutes the day before.  The W8D2 run felt so much harder than W8D1 despite the numbers being so similar.  I wish I knew why.

On each day, I did not want to go run.

On each day, I procrastinated.

On each day, I questioned myself during the run.

Even though I was not pleased with my pace, I knew at the end of the W8D2 run that I would be able to run a 5K without walking.
