How it started, versus how it’s going.
Since I have time between the end of lifting and when I need to be at home, I have been filling the gap by walking. I would say 99% of the time I am using a weighted vest. This morning, I fired up a 30-minute power walk and was about 18 minutes in before the rain came. I have run and walked in the rain before, and not at all afraid of that. But this was coming down in buckets. Like that big ole fat rain that Forest Gump talked about. Almost sideways.
So I strapped the vest a little more snug and decided I should run, well jog, back to the car. Funny looking at the Garmin data. It did feel pretty freeing to be out there in the rain and if I wasn’t worried about my phone getting soaked I probably would have just stayed out there longer. I was also surprised at how good I felt running with the vest on. Granted, I still am not fast at all, but it didn’t kill me like I thought it would. I am guessing it was just over half of a mile, so not a lot, but more than I have run with the vest on before.
I was a little bummed that once I got in the car and headed down the road that the rain stopped.
All of this reminded me of the time when I started running so many years ago. We went to a seminar and the speaker suggested getting out in the rain and running. She explained that if you only trained in good weather, and on race day were hit with bad weather, you wouldn’t be adjusted to that. It makes total sense. I wish I had been in a position to leave my phone, keys, and vest, and just go run in the rain.
