The weather here has not been great. It has been so cold and icy that I have not been willing to venture out to walk like I normally do. I am still moving around, so I am not worried about missing the walks.
Yesterday went a little something like this:
A.M. Session – Juggernaut PB A.I.
- Close grip bench (sets of 6 up to about 75% then a drop set)
- BB Upright row: 4 sets @ 90# (3-4 RIR)
- Press: 4 sets @ 105# (3-4 RIR)
- DB Bench: 4 sets @ 50# (3-4 RIR)
- Close-grip push-up: 3×10
- DB floor press: 4 sets @ 80# (3-4 RIR)
Post-Lifting:
- Peloton app: 5 min Core Strength (Emma Lovewell)
- Peloton app: 5 min Hips Stretch (Matty Maggiacomo)
- Peloton app: 5 min Hips Stretch (Chase Tucker)
With the snow, our afternoon schedule of getting our oldest somewhere changed up so that threw my cycling plan off. But I am hitting week 5 of an 8-week challenge so I don’t want to get too far behind. I made the mistake of looking at the graph preview and reading too many of the posts within the FB group to know that I was most likely going to have a hard time with the first ride of week 5. Still, the times spent in zone 5, a zone I loathe, didn’t seem too lengthy. I knew this would be more about recovery than anything else and tried to get my mind right to tackle it.
P.M. Cycling Session
- Peloton: 45 min Power Zone Ride (Matt Wilpers)
- Peloton: 10 min Low Impact Ride (Denis Morton)
- Peloton: 5 min Post-Ride Stretch (Matt Wilpers)
I felt like I struggled big-time with this. If you look close enough at my graph, you can see where I started the zone 5 intervals too late or dropped to zone 1 too soon. That was a sign of me having trouble keeping up. The graph was not as bad as I thought it would be, but this ride wore me out, both mentally and physically. I should have had something to eat before I did all of this, or at the minimum, taken a banana with me while I rode. But I am dumb, so I didn’t.
Bring on the Snow and Ice
I had planned to go to the gym the next morning so I thought it would be a good idea to shovel the driveway and get as much of the ice and snow off as possible. Some forecasts said we were getting more snow, some said a lot, some said not a lot. Who really knows with these guys? I just knew that if I wanted to get out of the driveway, I had to shovel. So I did. It wasn’t terrible, just 40 minutes, but the slight lean over the entire time was what finally did my back in.
To top it all off, I woke up this morning and it doesn’t look like I did anything at all.
I broke down and had some Tylenol and even resorted to using a heating pad on my back before bed. This morning was a struggle waking up and I did not sleep well. With very minimal on my lifting program, I felt it would be best to get more sleep than to push too hard.
Live to fight another day.
