USPL Coaching Cert

This was an opportunity that came about through our gym and I did not want to pass it up.  It is extremely rare for a cert to come to our gym like this.  Being in our backyard, no travel, home gym, it just makes sense. I signed up as quickly as I could and I am excited about continuing to add some coaching knowledge to what I have already built.

Shortly after I signed up, this arrived in the mail and I have already started to read through it.  It was a nice treat to have a printed copy mailed to me, whereas, with USAW, I was given a PDF link to download and print.

I have been coaching weightlifting for a couple of years now at our gym and we have branched out from weightlifting.  The weightlifting class is now more “lifting” with a hybrid focus on general barbell movements, not solely the snatch and C&J.  The majority of the members while never step foot on the platform to compete, and while I never understood that when I got started coaching, I understand it now.  It is perfectly OK.  We can still work toward platform level lifts without the competition part.  They want to work hard, have fun, and improve, but not be bored with the same old thing.  Being able to apply concepts from USAW and USPL should be a nice mix for class.

Part of my goals this year was to work more on continuing education with regards to health and fitness.  This was not one of the certifications that I had put on my list, but being at my gym, I couldn’t pass it up.  I am also looking at Precision Nutrition and the Adaptive & Inclusive Trainer course.
