I still lift weights.
Kinda.
I am now in week 4 of my first block with Juggernaut Powerbuilding AI. I am hopeful that in April the app that was just released will support the Powerbuilding AI program, too. Not that the spreadsheet is bad by any stretch, because it isn’t. In fact, it is one of the most complicated (in a good way) sheets I have seen. There is a lot of logic and moving parts to it, which I have really enjoyed.
When I selected a focus of hamstrings and shoulders, that is exactly what I got. There have been plenty of days where my shoulders and legs are smoked! There are a lot of days where I am not getting through the entire program. I am working on supersets when and where I can to get through the day in a more timely fashion, but some days that just ain’t happening.
Day 3 usually has the following:
- Good mornings: 3×10
- Comp deadlift: 3×8
- Push Press: 2×10
- DB Lunge: 4 sets
- RDL: 4 sets
- Glute bridges, standing calf raises, and planks
It takes me a while to get through all of that. There are times when I skip the core work because I know I can do it later after I am done riding the Peloton. Plus, if I do one of the Peloton core programs, I get the credit for that class, so it works for me.
I do feel really good about the lifting I am doing. Nothing is overly heavy, I would say. This is just a 4-week hypertrophy block and I am treating it somewhat like a bridge from what I am doing. The change of pace has been nice, such as more work with the dumbbells. I do wish our gym had more variety of weights. We don’t have 60# DBs and sometimes those show up in the programming for me, so I go with the 55 or the 70s. All depends.
All of my lifts feel pretty good with my back squat being the only notable exception. I rarely do any squatting and hate when I do. I shouldn’t be surprised that it feels like it does right now and I am OK with it. If I was prepping for a meet, this would be an entirely different feeling.
I am very curious to see what happens with this next block.
At the end of this week, I send my spreadsheet back to Juggernaut and then get the next 4 weeks based on my inputs. I am wondering if things will really ramp up or just slightly increase from where I am at.
