I had some time to pull some data from the time I have been on the bike.
I did not realize when I got the bike that once you reach 100 rides, Peloton sends you a free shirt to commemorate the effort. When I found that out, I wanted my first 100 rides that were counted to be classes, not warm-up rides or cool-down rides. While I periodically did those rides, I would delete them after so they would not count toward my 100 ride total. Looking back, I wish I had not deleted them. It would have been more interesting to me to see everything that I did on the bike and now that those are gone, I don’t have a complete data set. I did my best to enter everything into my Garmin and never deleted those classes. When I ran the numbers from my Garmin, here is what I get:
- Classes: 121
- Total Miles: 1316.05
- Total Calories: 48,536
I pulled my 2020 year from the PZP website and I get this:
Seeing that cracks me up because I just knew for a fact that when the bike arrived at the end of June that Gina would be the one using it, not me. In July, I started to use it a little more, taking mostly 20-minute classes and watching my HR spike. In August, I started to give in a little to the addiction, though I still refused to admit that I liked the bike as much as I really did. Then in September, I was all in. I started to take a class nearly every day ranging in duration but rarely hit a 20-minute class unless it was for recovery.
I can’t remember exactly when I found the PZP but I started to try some of the power zone rides and focus on those metrics. That type of training was something I enjoyed. I signed up and participated in my first PZP challenge which kicked off in November. That was when I really saw my miles rack up as most of the rides were 45 minutes long.
I also started to take some of their walking classes as a way to cool down after lifting and log a few more miles before I went home for the day. I wish they had more of those because I really got to a point where I loved them and sadly there are not nearly as many of those as the cycling classes.
On December 31st, 2020, I had racked up 7,100 minutes in the annual 2020 challenge. Not bad for only having the bike since the end of June.
2021
Thinking about 2021, I would like to reach 4,000 total miles and 15,000+ minutes for the annual challenge. Peloton released their new challenge brackets and I feel fairly certain that if I can stay healthy, I can achieve what I want.
