Block Cycle 2018: Week 3 of 6

This week was a train wreck.  The new puppy and lack of sleep finally caught up to me.  Training during the week has been fine, but the heavy singles on Sunday have not been.

Today was pretty tough, mainly because of the heat.  It is that time of year again where I am soaked in sweat after warming up.

Last night the dog was restless.  She has the habit of wanting to sleep on me.  Literally on top of me.  Not just anywhere, either.  She has to be on my head.  With her puppy claws she digs her way up my neck onto my head and that clawing wakes me up in pain.  She couldn’t get situated last night until around 1-2am which meant I got so little sleep that I just wasn’t waking up to go workout.

I thought I would come in on a Thursday to make up Wednesday.  Getting up at my normal time just wasn’t happening because I still wasn’t caught up on sleep.  With work caught up a bit, I went in around 10:00am and trained.  It was actually really good.  The gym was empty on my side.  I was awake, I had breakfast already, and I had been moving around.  The 80% on the cleans was just about too much for me.  I really hate cleans off the blocks for some reason.  Probably need to be doing them more but also worry that it might put me out of position.  Perhaps I am just in my head on these.

Since I have a photoshoot at the gym on Sunday morning at 8am, I didn’t want to get up super early and try and train before that.  I moved the heavy singles to Saturday which meant Friday would be an active day.  However, the sleep thing is still killing me and I didn’t even hear my alarms, much less remember turning them off.

My goal today was to just be able to hit 90% on each lift (195, 295).  The snatches felt pretty good but at 90% I knew that it was smart to stop.  By the time I got to the end of the CJ, I just felt so low on energy and the lack of sleep still getting to me that I missed the clean.  I am bummed about it because 275 felt so easy.  Really considering doing some powerlifting for a few weeks just to take a little break.
