Classic Position Cycle 2018: Week 6 of 12

  • W/U x 3 (2 Sn pulls + 2 SnPP + 2 OHS)
  • PS + OHS w/pause: 115, 135, 155, 166, 177
  • PP + BTNJ + J: 155, 205, 235, 265, 287, 300x
  • Jerk dip squat: 4x3x335

No Ibuprofen.  No high powered pre-workout.  Today was going to be a suckfest and I knew it.  I had trouble waking up, trouble getting warm, and was generally in a foul mood for no reason which in turn carried over to my workout.  I put 185 on the bar for the snatch complex and didn’t even get to a high pull before giving up.  I took a shot at 300 on the PP complex twice.  I barely missed it.  After I struggled so badly with 287 I didn’t think that 300 would happen, but being so close I had to take a shot.

  • W/U x3 (2 Sn pulls + 2 OHS + 2 SnPP)
  • Muscle Sn drills (Barbell, 4×5)
  • Sn: 5×2 @ 75% / 169 (Used 175)
  • Sn Pull: 3 @ 85% / 191, 3 @ 90% / 205, 3 @ 95% / 214
  • SnPP + OHS (2+1): 155, 205, 230, 245 (SnPP only), 267x

I got warmed up a lot better today before hitting the working sets on snatch.  I really feel that doubles are going to be best for me, especially warming up.  It was only 75%, and I went a tad bit heavier, but they all felt really great.  The overhead complex at the end was pretty rough today.  Last week I hit 265 on this but today I was failing around 230.

  • W/U x 3 (2 Snpp + 2 BTNJ + 2 Press in split)
  • Complex: PC + FS + C + J: 155, 185, 225, 247, 267, 280x, 280x
  • Hang Sn High Pull (knee): 4×4 @ 185
  • FS: 4×2 @ 81% / 350

I failed the power clean on the complex twice, with the second one actually being a lot closer.  I was getting the bar high enough but jumping forward for some reason so I left the bar out front.  I was pretty ticked off about the miss, feeling weak, but remembered that 280 is the most I have ever done on the complex anyway.  The front squats felt like slow death.

Here is another Saturday that I ended up skipping.  I was feeling pretty beat up.  Rather than wake up super early and follow the program, I opted to skip the day and save my energy for heavy singles on Sunday.  Looking back, this was very much the best decision.  I think I could still go in on a Saturday and workout, but it doesn’t need to be anything heavy.  In fact, something to get loose a little bit and stay moving would be best.  The program actually called for segment clean pulls, moderately heavy CJ 2+1 (which I hate), heavy clean pulls, then some snatch balances.  I have been doing this long enough to know when to back off and when to push.  Saturdays on this program for me might need to be a back off day.

  • Sn: 3x (2 pulls + 2 SnPP + 2 OHS) / Barbell, 3×3 HHMS / barbell, 3×2 muscle snatch (85#), 3×2 SB (85#), 2×115, 2×135, 2×155, 175, 185, 195, 205, 209
  • CJ: 3x (2 pulls + 2 PP), 3×3 drop jerk / barbell, 2×155, 185, 225, 250, 275, 295, 308, 321

Rather than work up using the programmed percentages (70, 75, 80, 85) I opted to do my own thing today treating it like a meet style max out session.  I made it a point to write down all of the warm-up movements and weights that really made me feel good.  This workout, from start to finish, was really good for me.  I ended up going 95/146/241 for the day, which was pretty big for me.  The snatch is still coming along and the CJ was 1kg over the current state record.  The total was 11kg over what I would need for Masters Nationals.  Really awesome morning.
