Block & Pull Cycle 2018: Week 6 [Test Week]

BP18.W6.D1.0206

  • Snatch: 2 @ 70% / 151, 2 @ 75% / 161, 2 @ 80% / 172, 3×1 @ 85% / 185
  • CJ: 2 @ 70% / 235, 2 @ 75% / 251, 2 @ 80% / 268, 3×1 @ 85% / 285
  • Clean pull: 3×2 @ 90% / 305
  • BS: 2 @ 70% / 350, 2 @ 75% / 375, 2 @80% / 400

Doubles up to 80%, followed by 3 singles at 85% after a rough weekend I figured would be pretty difficult.  I got in a few minutes early to start my warm-up and get moving sooner.  I believe that helped a great deal.  I also believe that when I do doubles up to the heavier percentages that I perform better in the snatch.  The extra reps seem to really make a positive difference.  For the snatch, the first felt slow, but the second two felt a lot better.  The second one felt really good and it has to be one of the first times I have really heard and felt the hip contact.  The CJs were a little tough, but I can’t remember the last time I really tried to hit 3 singles at 285lbs.  Not to mention that I am using 335lbs as my max, which is 10lbs over my true 1RM.  All in all, felt really accomplished today.

  • Snatch: 8×1 @ 60% / 130 (Did 135)
  • CJ: 5×1 @ 60% / 201 (Did 205)
  • Light accessory work: 4×3 tall snatches with 95# & DB curls

Looks like the taper has begun.  Today was 60%, Friday will top out at 75%, then drop down on Saturday before the final max out of the cycle on Sunday.  Today felt a little rough, but the taper always feels like that.  The snatches didn’t feel as snappy as they did yesterday for some reason.

  • Snatch: 1 @ 70% / 155, 3×1 @ 75% / 165
  • CJ: 1 @ 70% / 235, 3×1 @ 75% / 251
  • Sn pull: 3×2 @ 90% / 195 (Done at 205)

Decent day.  Felt a little tough here but nothing that I couldn’t handle.

BP18.W6.D4.0210

  • Snatch: 8×1 @ 50% / 115 (EMOM)
  • CJ: 6×1 @ 50% / 175 (EMOM)
  • Accessory work – 4x
    • 12 reverse hypers
    • 1:30 plank
    • 8 upside down KB press (35#)
    • 12 DB curls (30#)

Really strange to be doing the lifts so light, but I understand the taper.

BP18.W6.D5.0211

  • 1RM snatch: 2×85, 2×105, 2×130, 2×150, 170, 180, 190, 200x, 200, 205
  • 1RM CJ: 2×175, 2×195, 2×230, 260, 275, 290, 308, 315x
  • 1RM FS: 2×295, 2×315, 350, 375, 405, 425 (5lb PR), 445x, 432 (12lb PR)

I was honestly bummed out about the results at first.  I had planned to take each lift up to a single at 95% and then take a few shots at a PR. But that just wasn’t happening today.  However, the really good news is that I was able to hit 95% and felt confident about that.  Not only that, but 95% of my true 1RM on the snatch and CJ is enough to put me 3kg over the qualifying total for Masters Nationals.  After being bummed, I went over to test the 1RM FS and was pretty shocked at just how easy 425 felt, which was a 5lb PR.  I got greedy and went to 445.  When I walked it out, I didn’t have it sitting right in the front rack and thought I was going to pass out, so I dumped it.  Instead of settling for a 5lb PR, I added a little more weight and hit 432.
