Last night the Dawgs played Bama in the National Championship game and kick off was at 8:00pm. I knew I was going to stay up and watch the game, which meant training today would be struggle bus city. I also knew that since I hit a PR on Sunday and had a great training day, that would also mean today would be hard. Seems like the first day back after a really good day or PR is always so freaking hard for me. So I focused on just hitting my percentages. I also dropped a set from each one of these because I was so tired.

Today was a pretty light day. I struggled with motivation. Still feeling the effects of not having enough sleep even though I went to bed a little earlier than normal last night.

It always feels like I am rushed on days like today when there is more to do. Either that or I am just poor at time management. I have to pay attention to the clock and limit my rest. I really wanted to skip the snatch lift off complex to save time but figured I could roll through those pretty quickly. Glad I got it all in.

Today was a really good day. I am getting more and more comfortable at the heavier percentages on the snatch and this is now the second week in a row that I have snuck in a little PR. I don’t think there has ever been a time when that has happened. Coach said that the 211 looked pretty easy and to go to 220. I probably would have gone to 215 if she wasn’t there, but didn’t think 9lbs was that much of a stretch. While I missed the lift, I am not at all bummed out about it. I reverted back to old habits of looking down which caused me to lose it forward. But I had a great pull and got under it fine. I don’t think I have ever done a snatch high pull with 220, much less take an attempt at snatching it off the floor. I was honestly more excited about that than I was the 211 PR. I went to watch the video of the PR and actually never recorded it. Instead of stopping the video after the PR, I actually started it. So I have video of me walking around changing weights.
For the CJ, I talked to a buddy at the gym a few days earlier and asked what he thought I could hit on a heavy double. He said 275-280 would be a good but in the back of my mind I wanted 295. Or to at least take a shot at it. Somewhere in the back of my mind I figured I would get the first CJ at 295, the miss the jerk on the second lift. The double at 80% felt heavier than I expected and I needed a little more time in between sets. I jumped to 275 and felt pretty confident that I would make both, and I did. I knew I would only have one more attempt from there. I would either make it and be pretty worn out to keep going up, or I would miss and just move on to the front squats. While 295 wasn’t pretty, or easy, it wasn’t insanely difficult either. To hit 95% for a double after a great snatch session was pretty huge for me.
