KY Open 2017, Training

KY Open: Week 4 of 5

Worked up to 85% on snatch and my opener (about 93%) on my CJ on Sunday

W4.D1.10.10

  • Muscle Snatch: 5×3 (65, 85, 95, 115, 115)
  • HHSN: 5×3 (85, 85, 95, 115, 115)
  • CJ: 3@45% (137), 3@55% (167), 2@65% (198), 3@75% (228), 2@85% (260), 1@88% (268), work-up with no misses: 275, 287x
  • Sn Pull: 3×3@105% (220)
  • Accessory work/Superset x4: 8 udkb press ea. arm, 15 GHDs

The snatch work felt good, mostly because it was light.  But I am really trying to drill home the right technique and positioning here.  The CJ felt “OK”.  I worked up to 275 and then jumped to 287.  I caught the clean a little forward and felt more core collapse more than normal, so I had to fight it up, exhausting me too much before the jerk.  I am thinking seriously about working up to my opener with just the jerk and putting that on an EMOM type workout for about 10 singles and see what happens.

Sick/Recovery day

W4.D3.10.13

  • Muscle Snatch 5×3
  • High Hang Snatch 5×3
  • Clean 45% x 2 (140), 55% x 2 (170), 65% x 1 (201), 75% x 1 (232), 80% x 1 (248), 85% 2 x 1 (263), work up if no misses
  • Accessory (Superset x 3): Band pull-aparts, 20 DB curls

Today felt like absolute crap.  I did not use any pre-workout in an attempt to cycle off.  I had a banana before I went in to grab some carbs but it wasn’t enough.  I felt hungry and tired.  Everything was sore today, my wrists, knees, shoulders, and especially my lower back.  I made it through the cleans up to 80% where I failed.  I guess my brain wasn’t firing on all cylinders today either because I wrote down C&J instead of just the clean.  I stopped when I failed and skipped the accessory work because I was so ticked off at how I felt.

W4.D4.10.14

  • BS 2RM, then -20% for 2×2 (3×155, 3×245, 3×295, 3×335, 2×385; Dropsets: 2x2x315)
  • PP 1RM (3×135, 2×168, 2×135, 217, 231, 247x)
  • Accessory (Superset x 3): Sn RDL 5x3x220

Another mentally and physically difficult day of training. I felt weak and slow all around again.  The push press felt extremely heavy, more so than it should. I have had weeks were I was close to hitting 245 for a triple, but today failed 247 for a single.  Pretty discouraging.  I had KB tempo rows on the schedule with my accessory work, but did not feel like staying.  Everyone else had already finished and I would have been the only one in the gym.  Didn’t feel like hanging around and having to open the place up for open gym.

W4.D5.10.15

  • Sn Pull + Snatch 40% x 2 (84), 50% x 2 (104), 60% x 2 (125), 70% x 2 (146), 75% x 2 (157), 80% x 1 (167), work up but no misses
  • CJ 40% x 2 (124), 50% x 2 (155), 60% x 2 (186), 70% x 2 (217), 75% x 2 (232), 80% x 1 (248), work up but no misses

For the snatch, I went to 186 and missed.  Something about the 185 number that is in my head.  I dropped back to 155 for 3 singles and then went to 175 for 3 singles.  That helped my confidence a little bit.  For the CJ, I hit 250lbs without an issue.  Went to 270 then 287 (planned opener) with no problem.  Called it a day.  Really needed Sunday, especially mentally.  The past few weeks have been hard training days where I have just wanted to skip this meet coming up this weekend.  This was a needed day to get my mind back in the game.
