Above are all attempts from the Super Total Weekend meet on 9/16/17. I ended up finishing with 85/130/215 @ BW of 120.
The meet before this one was a bad meet for me (The first meet I bombed) despite a PR in the snatch. So I wanted and needed to do well here, which meant at least posting a freaking total.
Snatches
These went “just OK”. The first one felt light and I was feeling pretty upbeat. The next lift I fell back into an old habit of dropping my chest and looking down which caused me to miss the lift. That got into my head. On my final attempt it felt like I was trying to pull a Volvo off the ground and gave up on it. After these were over, I talked to my coach about the timing before my attempts. I felt like we worked up to my opener way too quick and it gave me a lot of time to walk around in the back. I did some heavy pulls but I don’t like doing multiple pulls before the actual lift.
CJs
We timed the warm-up here a lot better and I went onto the platform warm. I hit my first opener and felt good. On the second attempt, I stayed in the bottom of the clean a little too long which took some energy out of my legs standing it up. Got called for elbows on the jerk, which was the right call. On the final lift, I caught the clean forward (again, bad habits creeping in when I get heavy) and fought the weight up. I tried to fight the jerk but knew that if I stood it up, I would be called again for a press out/elbows, so I dumped it. I could also feel a sharp shooting pain down my right leg from my hip. Just wasn’t there today.
I was really upset about the snatch performance. And I was also upset to only go 2/6. I train too much to be that inconsistent at a meet. On the other hand, I did post a total and got some additional experience. This meet was only meant to be a tune-up meet in preparation for the KY Open later in October. Also, I am coming off a change in programming. For about 4 weeks prior to this meet I had started a new training cycle. It was a lot higher volume than I had ever attempted before. While I saw some PRs, I was barely keeping my head above water. It was proving to be too much for me and I wasn’t able to recover. I started to see my snatch & CJ backslide and then made the decision to switch it up.
On to the next meet…
